How many times have you heard your friends say “Ahh, if I need extra money when I retire, it’ll be ‘….do you want fries with that?’ or ‘Welcome to “X” big box store.’”??

I’ve heard many of my friends over the years joke about working for minimum wage at some store to supplement their retirement income or Social Security. This may be an OK plan for them, but frankly I think this is just a harder way to make a small amount of money.

Think of it this way; if you are going to continue to work for someone else, on THEIR schedule, on THEIR terms and doing as you’re told, for minimum wage (even less after taxes) you may well be better off to stay at your current job.  Most likely the pay is better, you have some seniority, know what is expected of you and can likely save money at a much faster rate.

Personally, I believe that starting and running your OWN business where YOU control the hours, the days you work (or not! ?), WHO you work with/for, how much money you make and can flex as you see fit is a MUCH better idea.

Using this model for either a second income, or to supplement your retirement income is a MUCH better way to go.  You can choose to work a few hours per week for some pocket money, or bust it for a few months out of the year and go to a warmer (or cooler) climate when the season changes. You can hire someone to work for you while you are away, or you can hire a few people and exponentially increase your income. The BEAUTY of this solution is that YOU MAKE IT what you want it to be!  No one is dropping some silly rules or goofy hours on you forcing you to work for a few dollars per hour.

YOU manage your time and your income!!  YES YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  ?
